"This I Believe..."

What are your core values as you consider your new role as an instructional coach?

All students can learn but only if we reach them.
Our generation needs to let go of our traditional way of thinking...this will be painful at first but the gains will be phenomenal.
People need to be intrinsically motivated to reach their full potential.
An important part of any leader's role is to build confidence.
Respect is the only way to build relationships.
Flexibility will be essential as we move forward.

Our Group's Memoirs

Me, As A Learner

  • What motivates you to learn?
New information about a topic that interests me. If the new information is bringing value to me or othres.

  • What must you have in order for your learning to be successful?
In order for my learning to be successful, I need reflection time. I also enjoy collaboration with others where we
can discuss and debate parts of the new information.

  • What causes you to pay attention, even if the topic you’re studying is not your favorite?
If the topic is presented in a new way or with an engaging activity, I will pay attention. If it is just presented in a boring way, I will still pay attention if necessary but it becomes a real chore. The engaging activity is always preferable.
  • What makes you shut down?
Lack of respect, people talking down to me. I also shut down when things are mandated without understanding the reason for them.

  • How can we create or avoid these conditions in our learning community?
People are motivated by different factors but most people who work in a creative field are driven by purpose. If we mantain a respectful relationship with students and continually give them opportunities to make meaning of their world through purposeful activities, i think we can avoid these pitfalls.
